Chasing the Bright Side
by Jess Elstrom
Summary: The story follows Jess Elstrom and her journey through starting a business. Through her business start up, Elstrom makes many mistakes and this novel helps teach what to do, and what not to do. This novel also teaches the reader how to change the structure of their mindset to be optimistic about everything.
Jess Major themes:
Failure: Throiughout the entire book the author drills it in our head that it is good to fail and encourages us to fail more than we win. Failure represents an opportunity for growth and preservation. Peer Pressure: No matter what you do in life, people will still complain at you and give their two cents. Jess was always under pressure by her parents to pursue a college diploma rather than chasing her dreams. |
Optimism: Throughout the whole book we are constantly encouraged to look at he bright side of life and not get too bogged down by the little things.
Favorite quote: “Say yes”(55). On this chapter in particular, Elstrom hounds in the fact that far too many people say no to things intuitively. The amount of experience one can build through life by saying yes to everything, except stupid stuff, is far more than those who say no to everything.
